Local scanning.
A little help.
Find help with ClamAV installation, malware definitions and scan results. SafeMac AV provides the Mac interface; ClamAV is installed separately.
Getting ready to scan
SafeMac AV supports macOS 13 or later. You also need a supported ClamAV installation and current malware definitions.
- Install ClamAV from its official source. Open the official ClamAV download page, choose the supported macOS installer package and follow its prompts. The installer route does not require Terminal; macOS may ask for an administrator password. ClamAV’s own system requirements apply.
- Open SafeMac AV and check engine readiness. If ClamAV is not found, follow the app’s setup guidance before starting a scan.
- Prepare malware definitions. Use the app’s definition-update controls and wait for the download to complete. Internet access is required.
- Choose what to check. Select a file or folder, run a scan and review its results, warnings and any detections.
ClamAV is free software and is installed independently. Payment for SafeMac AV covers its interface and workflow; the engine is not included.
Understanding a scan result
A result applies to the checks and locations scanned. A clean result does not guarantee the whole Mac is safe. Review warnings and incomplete reports before drawing conclusions.
SafeMac AV is intended to complement macOS protections. It does not replace endpoint security.
Review before taking action
The current GUI includes quarantine controls. Quarantine isolates a file locally; it is not an encrypted vault or a security boundary. Review a detection before moving or deleting a file. Permanent deletion cannot be undone.
Check the file controls offered by your edition before acting on a detection.
Availability & purchase information
SafeMac AV is priced at €4.99 / US$4.99 as a one-off purchase, with no subscription. Local currency and tax adjustments follow the purchase listing. ClamAV is obtained separately; payment covers the SafeMac AV interface and workflow.
The Mac App Store listing is not live yet, so purchases are not currently available. The Store edition’s installation route, supported features and privacy details will be confirmed before purchase is enabled. The existing GUI is not currently available for public download. For a Mac App Store purchase, Apple’s applicable purchase terms and the app licence shown in the listing govern the transaction. Any statutory consumer rights remain applicable.
Independent software
SafeMac AV is a separate product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cisco, Talos or the ClamAV project. ClamAV’s own licence and notices apply to the engine you install independently.
